What is an AP Physics 1: Algebra Based Course?
AP Physics 1 is a college-level physics course that is based on algebra. Kinematics, dynamics, circular motion and gravitation, energy, momentum, simple harmonic motion, torque and rotational motion, electric charge and electric force, DC circuits, and mechanical waves and sound are the topics that students will learn about through inquiry-based investigations.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this subject. Students must have finished Geometry and be enrolled in Algebra II or an equivalent course at the same time. Although the fundamental usage of trigonometric functions is covered in the Physics 1 course, this knowledge may be obtained in either the concurrent math course or the AP Physics 1 course.
Course Content
Unit 1: Kinematics
The study of motion will be introduced to you.
Unit 2: Dynamics
You’ll go through the ideas you learned in Unit 1 again to learn about force, which is the interaction of one thing with another.
Unit 3: Circular Motion and Gravitation
As you explore incredibly advanced models of motion, such as the circular path of a spacecraft circling a planet, you’ll improve your knowledge of motion and force.
Unit 4: Energy
You’ll discover the meanings of energy, work, and power, as well as the links between them.
Unit 5: Momentum
You’ll learn how to utilise the rule of conservation of momentum to understand physical events as you investigate the link between force, time, and momentum.
Unit 6: Simple Harmonic Motion
To study a new form of motion, simple harmonic motion, you’ll utilise the tools, techniques, and models you acquired in earlier courses.
Unit 7: Torque and Rotational Motion
You’ll investigate how an item rotates along an axis and learn about torque, which is a measurement of a force that may produce rotational motion.
Exam Pattern
Section I: Multiple Choice
This portion will consist of 50 questions and will last 1 hour 30 minutes, accounting for 50 percent of the overall score.
- Questions are either discrete questions or question sets, in which students are provided with a stimulus or a set of data and a series of related questions.
- The section includes 5 individual multi-select questions (2 options are correct).
Section II: Free Response
This portion will consist of 5 questions and will last 1 hour 30 minutes, accounting for 50 percent of the overall score.
This section contains 5 free-response questions of the following types:
