What is the IB board?

Let’s start by defining IB. In the 1960s, the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme was developed in Switzerland. The curriculum was designed to provide students from all around the world with a challenging, globally recognised certificate for admittance into colleges. The IB awards students with an IB Diploma, which is accepted by the majority of colleges and universities. There are now roughly 148 schools in India using the IB curriculum, which was adopted in the country in 1976.

There are four programmes included in it:

1. Primary Years Programme (PYP)
2. Middle Years Programme (MYP)

You must take courses from each of the six areas in order to get your IB diploma. Remember that you can take a language, people and society, or science course in place of an arts subject. You must also finish the core, which entails a separate course called Theory of Knowledge (TOK).

Group 1: Language and literature studies

The first category of IB Diploma courses consists of language and literature courses. According to the IB, these classes are designed to “develop a student’s lifetime interest in language and literature, as well as a love for the richness of human expression.”

Group 2: Language Acquisition

This series of classes major goal is to teach students how to speak a foreign language proficiently while also learning about and appreciating a different culture.

Group 3: Individuals and Societies

The core of the Diploma Program (DP)

In the course Theory of Knowledge, students are encouraged to consider the nature of knowledge and what it means to state, “I know.”

Extended Essay, a 4,000-word report that is the result of an independent research project, and Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS), in which students engage in projects and extracurricular activities centered around these topics.

IB Grading Pattern

The maximum score for any IB course is seven. The extended essay and ToK portions of the DP core are graded on an A to E scale. The requirements for creativity, action, and service are pass/fail. You gain 1-3 points based on the sum of your ToK and EE scores, bringing your total possible score to 45. You obtain a final grade with a maximum possibility of 45 points at the conclusion of the IB diploma programme. 42 of those points are attributable to your six IB classes.

The minimum score needed to receive an IB Diploma is 24, and you must receive a minimum of nine points for each of your SL subjects and a minimum of 12 points overall in your HL subjects (no score lower than 3).
