My name is Muskaan. I am a tenth-grade student from Legacy School Bangalore. As a student, there are always some subjects which you like and some which you detest. For me, Math was my biggest fear and enemy. I was not a bright student when it came to Mathematics; just the thought of it made my heart race.
In my internal exams, I would never score more than a 40, and that too would be a great accomplishment for me. Continuously getting low grades made me lose hope and I stopped believing in myself. My teacher would keep telling me to try over and over again but I felt it didn’t really help. I could do math in school when I’m home and go for extra math classes in school and at ReWiser. I would literally eat, sleep and breathe math!
Unlike me, my elder brother is a genius in Maths. Whenever I was confused; which was mostly all the time, I would ask him for help. We would stay up late nights, and he would try to make me understand… it took a while. I was also lucky enough to have two teachers who constantly encouraged me and believed in me and somehow made me believe in myself.
One good quality in me is that I am a hard worker. When I put myself to something, I will work towards it and try my best to get to it, which I did.
My boards were coming up and my fear started to build up… that was my biggest issue. I was hoping for a miracle, but I knew that was unlikely to happen. So, I decided to do whatever it took to get myself a good grade. I decided to take my math teacher’s help on an emotional level. I asked her to give me a pep talk once in a while when I felt demotivated; it helped! I tried my best to keep working hard on Math because I wanted to make myself and everyone else proud. All I was hoping for was at least a B.
The day my results were released, I walked out of the Director’s office with a big grin on my face. I got an A*! I couldn’t believe it. All my teachers, tutors, my parents and my brother were so proud of my achievement! My hard work paid off!
This entire experience has taught me one thing: If you really put your mind to it, believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve anything you wish. And the most important… don’t let your fear take over you. Make it your aim to get over your fear. It is the only obstacle between you and your success!
